Abstract
This essay looks at the phenomenon of recycling and e-waste in Africa through the lens of Jean-Claude Nsabimana's photographs which raise environmental and political awareness around issues of the Anthropocene from a southern perspective. The essay touches on the entangled histories of extraction and sponsored conflict in Africa, tracing some of these issues back to a colonial past, which is to some extent continuous with a neocolonial and neoliberal present. The essay focuses on Nsabimana's photographs which connect the environmental, political, and historical issues back to his personal narrative and experiences.
